Weekly Emais

Catalogue of weekly emails during remote learning

September 4,  2020

Dear IS289 families and students,

As you have heard by now, the mayor announced the first day of school!  There is a lot to share with you since my last email, but I am trying to be brief in this email.  Families are trying to make plans for the school year and I want to share with you a few calendar updates.  As soon as we have a DoE calendar, we will share it with you.

Tuesday, September 15 (9:15am and 6:00pm): Whole School Family Town Halls

Each month this summer, I have held town halls around the middle of the month on Tuesday.  September will finally feature some answers to your questions, and I imagine you have a lot of questions. Therefore, I will schedule the town halls for 45 minutes in length.  Here are some of the questions families have been asking that I hope to address: arrival procedures, attendance requirements, curricular outline and approach, sixth grade orientation, remote classes and planning, and instructional staff.  Please keep the questions coming and I'll do my best to address them.

Wednesday to Friday, September 16, 17, 18:

Instructional Orientation
All students will

  • Reconnect to their school community

  • Learn the health and safety procedures

  • Check technical connectivity

  • Have wellness checks with their teachers and guidance staff

Monday, September 21, 2020: Full Day Schedules Begin

All schools will begin full-day teaching and learning

  • Students in blended learning (combination of in-person and remote) will begin to report to buildings, depending on their in-person schedule

  • Students in 100% remote learning will all begin full-day learning

First Full "A" day is on Monday, September 21

The official DoE calendar is not out yet, but here are some likely things to know for the first quarter, pending DoE approval:

  • Group A will likely be in the building Mondays AND Wednesdays.

  • Group B will likely be in the building Tuesdays AND Thursdays.

  • Everyone will have school every day.  When not in the building, students' classes will be online.  Schedules will be shared during Orientation Week (9/16-9/18)

We're in the home stretch.  I can't wait to see you in person or online soon!

Best,
Zeynep
